Fine Art Photography empowering women facing breast cancer reconstruction surgery creating sustainable impact.
Louise McKenna-Mayes, a breast cancer patient, together with Toni Ward, an award winning photographer, have made it their mission to build a visual tool to educate and help women to make decisions around breast reconstruction options. Through Lou's lived experience of limited or no access to images during treatment to help her make an informed decision and the realisation that this was not unique but that most women undergoing a mastectomy faced similar challenges, Toni and Lou set out to change the narrative and the idea of 'The Book of Boobs' aka 'BOB' was born.
It is a unique project that collaborates with patients, nurses, and surgeons and aims to transform the patient experience.
“Seeing real life images, really, I think is a complete game changer”

2.
"I was made to feel really beautiful in those photos."
3.
"I looked at myself in a different light. Seeing the images, they're absolutely incredible. I am still a woman even though I don't have boobs and I can still be beautiful. They are just incredible images."
